CATS’ is pleased to launch its first recycling program along the LYNX Blue Line.  This is a single source recycling program that includes the installation of 54 recycling bins at all 15 LYNX Light Rail Station Platforms.  By diverting recyclable materials out of the waste stream and back into the stream of commerce helps not only the environment, but the economy also.

CATS ask that you do your part for a greener ride by recycling your paper bags, plastic bottles, and aluminum cans before boarding the LYNX Blue Line. Just look for these recycling bins located at each LYNX Blue Line Station and dispose of your items before boarding.  Recycling bins are also available for use at the Charlotte Transportation Center.  If you have styrofoam cups or other trash,such such as food containers, please place those inside the black trash cans located on each station’s platform.

Recycling Facts:

• A used aluminum can is recycled and back on the grocery shelf as a new can, in as little as 60 days. That's closed loop recycling at its finest!
• Americans use 85,000,000 tons of paper a year; about 680 pounds per person.
• Americans use 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour! Most of them are thrown away!
• A modern glass bottle would take 4000 years or more to decompose -- and even longer if it's in the landfill.

The LYNX Recycling Program is another step to safeguard the environment not only for us, but for future generations. Recycling helps to reduce our dependence on landfills, saves energy, and prevents pollution. With your help, we can keep our light rail stations and vehicles clean and even greener.
