Fire Chief Jon Hannan

Jon B. Hannan is the Fire Chief and Homeland Security Director for the City of Charlotte. As the Fire Chief for the City of Charlotte, Chief Hannan is responsible for all fire department functions.  As the Homeland Security Director, Chief Hannan coordinates with State and Federal Officials to support and fund initiatives important to the safety and security of the City of Charlotte. 
 
Hannan joined the Charlotte Fire Department in 1978 as a dispatcher and began his firefighting career in 1983. He was promoted to Captain in 1987 and served a special assignment as a Training Officer at the Fire Training Academy from 1993 to 1996. He was named Battalion Chief in 1996 and Deputy Chief in 1999.
 
He received his bachelor’s degree in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and his associate degree in Fire Protection Technology from Central Piedmont Community College.
 
Hannan is a graduate of the Professional Executive Leadership Academy of the University of North Carolina School of Government and holds a Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. The North Carolina League of Municipalities awarded Hannan the George C. Franklin award, presented each year to the most outstanding student in the University of North Carolina’s Institute of Government’s Municipal Administration course. He is a United Way Leadership donor.

He lives in Charlotte with his wife and their two children.
