The Uptown Loop Study will help define projects for the 2040 Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization (MUMPO) Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The results will be referred to as the I-277/I-77 Strategic Plan and will address the recommendations of the 2020 Center City Vision Plan.

The study is being funded through the Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization (MUMPO) and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

Timeline

The Uptown Loop Study started in late fall of 2011. CDOT, NCDOT, Charlotte Center City Partners and consultants have been reviewing existing conditions and potential concepts for operational improvements to the Uptown Loop. A public workshop was held in early June of 2012 to collect public input. It is anticipated that the study will be complete by winter of 2013.

A Technical Oversight Team (TOT) has been providing input on the Loop Study from the beginning.  This team includes staff from various City departments, NCDOT, Charlotte Center City Partners and the study consultant, RS&H.  Based on public input and the TOT meetings, a number of concepts have been further developed.  The concepts are shown in the Potential Projects Map.  From these concepts, potential projects will be nominated for inclusion in the 2040 MUMPO Long Range Transportation Plan.
