Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department (CMUD) Engineering oversees more than $200 million worth of water and sewer improvement projects each year. CMUD is committed to providing timely, accurate information to customers and the general public about work that may affect them. All projects are paid for by customers through water bills.

Wastewater Projects

• Proposed Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility - This is near the Catawba River and would serve the Long Creek basin in Mecklenburg County. 
• McAlpine Creek Improvements -This project will add capacity to the existing sewer so that it can handle peak flow events that occur during times of wet weather mimizing sewer spills into creek.
• Briar Creek Improvements - The goal is to add sewer pipes along Briar Creek from the Sugar Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (Tyvola and Park roads) to Harris Boulevard. This project will enhance system performance, provide increased sewer capacity for present and future needs, and protect the water quality in Briar Creek.
  

Water Projects

• Old Statesville Road - install 60-inch to 36-inch in diameter drinking water pipe between Starita Road and Sunset / Statesville / Old Statesville Road intersection.  This will be coordinated with a road widening project.  Updates will be posted here.
