Spay / Neuter Services

The CMPD Animal Care and Control Free Community Spay / Neuter Clinics was created to reduce the number of puppies and kittens arriving at Animal Care and Control (AC&C). We encourage citizens to investigate all Spay / Neuter options available for your pet prior to submitting an application to The Animal Care and Control Free Community Spay / Neuter Clinic.   The program is prepared to accept a limited number of applications from residents of Mecklenburg County who are unable to provide for the sterilization needs of their family pets.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Applicant must be a resident of Mecklenburg County (No Exceptions). On the day of your pet's surgery appointment you will be required to provide your Drivers License with current address or a Photo Identification and current utility bill as proof of residency.
  2. This program is designated for family pets therefore rescue personnel and feral cats will not be granted appointments. Your pet must be in compliance with the local Animal License ordinance. If needed payment of your Animal License fee will be accepted at check-in.
  3. Surgery appointments will be limited to a maximum of three pets per address within a twelve month period. Applications received in excess of the maximum (3) will be denied (No Exceptions). We do not reschedule forgotten and/or missed appointments and they will count as one of the three allowed per household. Request to reschedule will be accepted with a 48 hour notice.

FUNDING:

The Community Spay / Neuter Clinics are being funded with private donations and grant money. (It is not part of an operational budget.) The availability of donations and grant money has been drastically reduced due to the unstable economy. Unfortunately, the clinics can continue only as long as funding is available. Once our current funds are exhausted, the clinics will be discontinued.  Please use your local veterinarian or the Humane Society of Charlotte's low cost spay / neuter clinic if you are financially able.

APPOINTMENTS:

Appointments are not immediately available. Please contact your local veterinarian if your pet's needs are urgent in nature. In some cases it may take four to eight months before your pet is scheduled for surgery.

Large dogs (#50 and over) will have a significantly longer wait than smaller animals as our kennels space allows for only four large dogs per clinic.  Most large dogs spend at least six moths and up to twelve months on the surgery appointment waiting list.

Use of this program is restricted to family pets.  Rescue personnel and feral cats will not be granted surgery appointments.

Your pet must be in compliance with the local Animal License ordinance.  If it is not, compliance will be required the morning of your surgical appointment.  The Animal License fee ($10.00 cash / check) will be waived for sterilized pets owned by a Senior Citizen (62+).
