Consumer and Family Advisory Committee (CFAC)

Q. What is the CFAC and what to does it do?

A. Mecklenburg County Area Mental Health (AMH) formed the Consumer & Family Advisory Committee (CFAC) in response to the state's public health system reform.

The CFAC, a volunteer group, is there to make sure consumer voices are heard and responded to as the mental health system continues to change. The group advises Area Mental Health to make sure that system reform is going in the right direction.

The CFAC reviews policies that have a direct impact on consumers and their families and participates in the quality improvement process. The group is also assisting AMH with selecting contractors to provide services to consumers.

Q. Who are the members?

A. The group consists of 16-20 volunteers representing each of the areas served by AMH -- mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse. The volunteers are consumers, former consumers and consumer family members.

Q. How can I get involved?

A. CFAC meets monthly on the third Thursday, 5:30-7:30 pm, at the Sam Billings Center, 429 Billingsley Road, 2nd floor conference room. These meetings are public meetings; anyone is welcome to observe and may speak on issues of concern to them during the scheduled public comment time at the beginning of each meeting.

In addition, AMH has other volunteer opportunities for consumers and their family members. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out a volunteer application, print and send to: Mecklenburg Area Mental Health, CFAC Membership Chair, 429 Billingsley Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.

The CFAC chairperson is:
