Background

Eastland Community Transit Center is a neighborhood-sized transit center to be located at Eastland Mall along Central Avenue. The facility will cover approximately 1.5 acres and will include an open-air plaza, covered passenger waiting areas, pedestrian pathways and bicycle parking. Construction started on the facility in February 2006 and is scheduled to open later this year.

Features

  • Will accommodate 8-10 small and regular-sized buses linking the center with uptown and other neighborhood destinations
  • Providing a safe and comfortable facility to use and transfer on CATS routes 9, 40X, 220, and 222
  • Providing a safe and comfortable facility to use and transfer on CATS routes 9, 29, 40X, 220, 221 and 222.  In FY 2005, over 1.7 million customers used these routes to reach their destination.
  • The facility will include a small building housing a driver comfort station, provisions for on-site surveillance and security, and up-to-date passenger information
  • On-site surveillance at all times during transit service hours
  • Will provide pedestrian connection between the community transit center and Eastland Mall

Anticipated Schedule

  • Design complete- Summer 2005
  • Begin construction- February 2006
  • Open facility- Fall 2006
