LYNX Blue Line Extension Fast Facts


•         Dual-track light rail system
•         Runs from Center City Charlotte through North Davidson (NoDa) 
          and the University area to I-485 north of UNC Charlotte 
•         Total corridor length:  11 miles
•         Considered an extension of the LYNX Blue Line - South Corridor
•         13 proposed light rail stations
•         Most stations will be serviced by CATS' bus network
•         Trains will operate seven days a week from 5:30 am to
          1:30 am
•         Service frequency:
           –        Rush hour:  every 7.5 minutes
           –        Non-rush hour:  every 15 minutes 
•         Anticipated daily ridership (2030):  17,500
•         Light rail vehicles:
           –        Propelled by electric motors 
           –        Steel wheels rolling along steel rails
           –        Propulsion power is from an overhead electric wire
           –        Top speeds of 55 mph 
           –        68 seats with a total capacity of 236
           –        Level boarding (low floor vehicles) 
           –        4 wheelchair-designated areas and 4 bike racks 
                     per car 
•         Land use planning goal:  Define land use strategies that
          are supportive of transit and compatible with adjacent
          neighborhoods 
•         Start of service:  Late 2015
