Crime Story
Between 1970 and 1994 William Butler, a substitute teacher in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System, sexually molested and abused multiple children, male and female, who were acquaintances or children in his care. Some of the children were as young as six years old. Also during this time, Butler sexually molested his grandson.
After they had grown older, several of victims contacted the Pineville Police then confronted Butler. Butler was tried in 1995 and convicted of numerous counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child and Second Degree Rape. He was sentenced to 30 years for the offenses.
