Crime Story
On July 5, 1073 James Mitchell, Albert Lewis Cary, Antonio Dorsey and Harold Givens traveled to the Exxon station at the corner of Trade and Cedar streets with the intent to rob the clerk. Mitchell and his gang had been on a binge of robberies that had included banks, insurance companies and service stations. All of the robberies involved weapons. On this date Mitchell and Givens were to approach the store while the others stayed in the car. Mitchell and Givens approached the victim as he closed the store for the day and Mitchell pointed a shotgun at the victim to rob him.  Mitchell told him to give him his money and the victim refused to comply. Mitchell shot the victim point blank with the shotgun. The two ran to the car and left the scene leaving the money behind. The victim died from his wounds. Mitchell pled guilty to second degree murder. He was a juvenile at the time of the murder. He refused to testify against the others involved however, Albert Carey was found guilty of first degree murder and is still serving that sentence. Mitchell received 70 years for his conviction but has been released for that sentence according to DOC. He remains in prison on other charges that he received while in prison.
