LEGAL NOTICE
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has acquired, through its regular course of business, a number of firearms unrelated to any current criminal matter. The legal owner(s) of the firearms are unknown to the CMPD, or have not responded to any attempt to contact them. It is the intention of the CMPD to seek court authorization for destruction of firearms.
If you are the rightful owner of a firearm and believe that the firearm may be in the custody of the CMPD, please check the list at this site.
Or you may contact the CMPD Property Control Bureau IMMEDIATELY at (704) 336-2378. You must provide proof of ownership before your firearm will be returned to you. You will be required to answer background questions to verify your eligibility to own or possess a firearm PRIOR to the return of your firearm.
