The ADW Unit (Assault with Deadly Weapon Unit) is responsible for assaults which result in serious or, critical injury to the victim. The ADW Unit primarily responds to firearm aggravated assaults in the same manner as the Homicide Unit responds to homicide calls for service. In addition, the ADW Unit works closely with the Homicide Unit to coordinate the investigation of serious firearm assaults resulting in life threatening injuries or subsequent deaths.

The ADW Unit consist of one captain, two sergeants, nine detectives, and one investigative technician.

ADW detectives work to provide victims and their families with information as soon as possible, while also, keeping them informed on the status of the case. ADW detectives present their case to the District Attorney's Office and assist in the prosecution of the cases.
