This information applies to military personnel. Capt. Don Harkey, a member of CMPD's Recruiting staff, travels to various military bases during the course of the year. At these locations, he attends job fairs, explains the hiring process and gives the written exam to active duty military personnel. Those who pass the exam, receive an application in the mail. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department also participates in the Veteran's Administration Apprenticeship Program, through the North Carolina Department of Labor.  Military and civilian personnel or dependants eligible to receive GI Bill benefits may be enrolled in the program and earn an additional  monthly supplement.  More details are available through your local Veteran's Affairs office or the links listed here.
