On May 21, 2008 at approximately 12:30 p.m., CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) apprehended Christopher Cooper (DOB 02/03/1971), wanted for two counts of 2nd Degree Rape, two counts of 2nd Degree Sex Offense, and Assault by Strangulation.
VCAT developed information that led them to tracking Cooper through several counties. Officers were able to conduct a successful covert apprehension of the suspect on Montreat Street in Charlotte.
Cooper was aware of his fugitive status and had been actively eluding capture for more than a month. He is currently being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail on $310,000 bond.
