Ponderosa Neighborhood Improvement Project

A 2008 Neighborhood Bond Project
This project will provide various infrastructure improvements (sidewalk, curb and gutter, drainage, etc.) in the Ponderosa neighborhood. The project's boundaries are West Boulevard, a Norfolk-Southern RR line, Seymour Drive and the rear property lines of parcels on the east side of Kenhill Drive. In the voter-approved 2006 bonds, $400,000 was included for Planning & Design for the Ponderosa neighborhood project. In November 2008, voters approved another bond package which contained $1,900,000 to be used to construct the Ponderosa NIP project. This project also involves coordination with storm drainage projects.
Details:
- Sidewalk is proposed on Fordwood, Denview, Parkmont, Marklnad adn Wedgefield.
- Drainage improvements are proposed throughout the neighborhood with a concentration on the system from Markland to Mayfair between Wedgefield and Fordwood.
- Dense street trees are proposed on Markland between Parkmont and Elkmont to deter speeding.

Ponderosa This project will build sidewalk, curb and gutter, and storm drainage improvements in the Ponderosa neighborhood. This project will coordinate with the existing sidewalk project on Markland and Wedgefield. This project and the sidewalk project will be constructed together.
What's happened? The Planning Phase is complete and the project team has begun the design process. Click here to view the concept plan.
What's next? The design plans will be completed so that the Right-of-Way Acquisition Phase can begin in mid 2010.

- Resurfacing is proposed for Danlow, Wedgefield and a portion of Markland between Wedgefield and Fordwood.
- A pedestrian access path is proposed between Kenhill and Mayfair to provide access to Wingate Park.

Cost: $2,300,000 Please note that this is the NIP funding amount. Additional funding may be identified during the design phase. Project costs typically include all costs associated with the project such as planning and design, acquiring the right of way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits and landscaping.
