Part of the Transportation Program
The City Boulevard Extension project will include modifications to intersections with a focus on providing a variety of travel choices; improving travel conditions for vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclist and transit users. The physical limits of the project area extend from the existing intersection of City Boulevard and Neal Road to the west where the proposed street extension would connect with the proposed realignment of Mallard Creek Road near Rumple Road.

- Improve travel conditions for vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclist and transit users within the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area
- Create more travel choices
Cost: $10,800,000
Please note this is the funding amount and includes all costs associated with the project such as planning and design, acquiring the right of way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits and landscaping. Additional funding may be identified after the planning phase.

City Boulevard Extension
This project will identify improvements along City Boulevard, extending from the existing intersection of City Boulevard and Neal Road to the proposed realignment of Mallard Creek Road near Rumple Road, to enhance conditions for vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users.
What's happened?
The first public meeting was held in June 2008. The second public meeting and design workshop were held as part of a day-long outreach initiative in July 2008. Since the public meetings, the project team has progressed through the planning phase. The design contract was approved by City Council in September 2009 and the City's engineering consultant, URS Corporation, has begun the design process.
What's next? Preliminary plans for public viewing is anticipated spring 2010. City staff and North Carolina Department of Transportation will continue to collaborate to ensure a successful design of the City Boulevard Extension project.
