Tyvola Road West Farm-To-Market Project

An Transportation Bond  Project

This project will make improvements to Tyvola Road West to benefit motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.  Potential features may include:

  • Sidewalks with planting strips
  • Bicycle facilities
  • Curb and gutter with improved drainage 
  • Turning lanes
  • Median islands
  • Landscaping

Tyvola Road West is under study to identify current infrastructure deficiencies and to determine future development standards.  The project team is carefully reviewing and analyzing current and projected land uses and transportation data. 

Based on the conclusions of the study, the project team will recommend construction features and limits. 

The planning study limits are Tyvola Road West from South Tryon Street to West Boulevard and Old Steele Creek Road from Tyvola Road West to West Boulevard. Click here to view the project vicinity map.

This project will make improvements to Tyvola Road West to better serve motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

What's happened? City staff is working with engineering consultants PBS&J to determine future roadway standards, and features and limits for construction.  A public meeting was held on September 1, and input from the meeting is being considered in this process.  Click here to view the minutes from this meeting.

What's next? The project team will develop and study various alternatives for Tyvola Road West.  The team will later make a recommendation for each segment of the roadway and for the features and limits to be constructed through this project.  Residents will be invited to a second public meeting to comment on the recommendations in Spring 2010.

Please note that the project cost will include all costs associated with the project such as planning and design, acquiring the right of way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits and landscaping.
