Project Safe Neighborhoods is a national program funded through the US Department of Justice and managed by the US Attorney's office. The program is working to keep our communities safe by eliminating gun violence.
Project Safe Neighborhoods is a collaborative effort among federal, state and local law enforcement and community partners designed to create strategies that address the unique gun crime problem in Western North Carolina. Criminals who use guns are prosecuted under federal, state or local laws, depending on which jurisdiction can provide the most appropriate punishment.
The project continues to build momentum through its leadership and strengthen community efforts with the assistance of the PSN Community Partners.

Featured PSN Task Force Agency: GANG OF ONE
Criminal street gangs are one of our nation's most serious problems. More and more frequently, we are hearing about gangs and their involvement in various crimes in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and surrounding areas. Charlotte's gang problem is small compared to other cities, but it is growing. New members are recruited every day and many recruits become career criminals. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the agency's Gang of One Unit are two Task Force members instrumental in addressing the rising gang problems in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. In August 2003, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) established the Gang Intelligence Unit and later established Gang of One in February 2004. Gang of One started in the Eastway Division and quickly spread to all other divisions in 2005. With the introduction of a 24 hour gang hotline - 704.432.GANG/4264, the hotline is quickly becoming a staple in the community for gang prevention and intervention. Gang of One is a resource-based gang prevention and intervention initiative for youth that utilizes a network of local resources to address needs related to gang membership. The mission is to prevent youth from joining gangs, support youth being pressured to join a gang, and assist youth in getting out of a gang. Gang of One is available as a resource to educate you and your community, civic group or church about gang-related issues.
