Facade Improvement Grant Stories

Developed in 1998, the Facade Improvement Grant Program has participated in over 100 projects removing blight and improving commercial site conditions in and along the city's distressed business corridors and districts.  Below are examples of projects that have participated in the program.

Read about John's story:  John Nichols, III made use of the Business Equity Loan and Facade Improvement Grant programs to purchase and improve his business property at 1200 Central Avenue.  Through the facade program he was able to restore the building, dating from 1920, to retain as much of its historical character as possible.  As it turns out, improving his building has improved his real estate development business too.  "I tapped into the Facade Improvement Grant Program.  It not only improves a property, but it can help save historic sites, too." John Nichols, III, Real Estate Developer.
