2009 HIRING PROCESS

The Charlotte Fire Department has only one hiring process per year.  Unfortunately, the process for 2009 has closed to new candidates.  We anticipate conducting another firefighter hiring process in 2010.  Please see 2010 Interest List for more information.

2010 FIREFIGHTER APPLICANT INTEREST LIST (mailing list)

Note:  The interest list is a mailing list only and you are not pre-registering for the 2010 hiring process.  You only need to register once.  Mailing will occur a few weeks before 2010 test registration opens. 

** Do not rely on this mailing alone, although you enter your own information we usually have hundreds returned annually. We recommend you begin checking our website in December on a weekly to bi-weekly basis for any updates.  It is your responsibility to keep yourself informed.**

 

Requirements and Hiring Process

Firefighter candidates must successfully complete all of the following steps to be considered for employment:
  • Written Examination
  • Candidate Physical Ability Test © (CPAT)
  • Background Interview & Application Packet Review
  • Background Investigation (including references, work history, credit, criminal, and driving records)
  • Polygraph Examination 
  • Panel Interview 
  • Pre-Employment Medical Examination and Drug Screening 
  • Civil Service Certification
