General Communicable Disease Control

General Communicable Disease Control investigates 69 reportable diseases (not including STDs, AIDS or TB) that are required to be reported by law in North Carolina. We implement and enforce control measures that are specific for certain communicable diseases in order to stop or limit the spread of these diseases. We also compile statistical information on these diseases.

REPORTING COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
24 Hour Reportable Diseases - For diseases and conditions required to be reported within 24 hours, the initial report shall be made by telephone to the appropriate person listed on the reporting roster. Telephone reports should include:
- disease
- date of onset
- patient name
- address
- age
- race
- name
- telephone number of person making the report
- laboratory confirmation (if available).
7 Day Reportable Diseases - for diseases and conditions that must be reported within seven days, a communicable disease report form should be completed and mailed to the appropriate person and Health Department site or faxed to 704.353.1202.
