EVENT RECYCLING

HOW TO PLAN AND GET THE MOST FROM RECYCLING AT YOUR SPECIAL EVENT!!

A special event may be a street fair, concert, wedding, sports event, or other activity. There are many opportunities when conducting special events to reduce waste and recycle materials.

WHY RECYCLE AT YOUR EVENT?

Recycling helps save natural resources and energy, prevents litter and creates jobs.  According to U.S. EPA nearly 70% of plastic beverage bottles get tossed in the trash or become litter.  Recycling at your event can help prevent such waste.

Many Americans are accustomed to recycling at home and work; more and more these people want to see recycling at public events.

HOW DO YOU GET STARTED?

In order to make recycling at your event a success, start by requesting a Mecklenburg County Event Recycling Tool Kit. Contact Mecklenburg County Waste Reduction Staff at 704.336.3461 or you can download the kit by clicking Meck County SER application.pdf.

To be granted use of the event recycling materials, a completed and approved application form is needed; a minimum refundable deposit of $100.00 is due at least 14 days prior to the event for the use of the complete Toolkit; and a signed agreement that relieves Mecklenburg County of any/all safety liability for and during the use of our equipment.

KEEP A GOOD THING GOING!

Once you have a system in place for recycling during your event, educate your volunteers and participants on what and where materials can be recycled. Place a clearly labled recycling container near each garbage can.

Whether you are transporting collected recyclables to a recycling drop-off center yourself or contracting with a local recycling service provider, keep records of how much you recycle.
