Effective October 1, 2000 the Sheriff's Office assumed responsibility for funeral escorts within the county. The Sheriff's Office is performing this service at a charge of $150.00 per funeral. This fee was selected as the minimum cost to perform a funeral escort, and takes into account the deputies salary, vehicle cost, etc. The funerals are performed by off duty staff when possible. If you have questions or comments about an escort send them to Sergeant J. Carter at Jonathan.Carter@mecklenburgcountync.gov To request an escort, funeral directors should contact Sergeant J. Carter at 704-432-0487 or by fax at 704.336.4727. The following information is required:
- Date of Escort
- Time of Escort
- Name of Deceased
- Name and address of Funeral Home and contact number, Fax number
- Address funeral is leaving from
- Cemetery address
- Recommended route
- Estimated number of vehicles
48 hours notice is requested for funerals so staff can prepare. Two deputies and vehicles are always provided.
