Starting Salary: $31,928 - $39,616/yr

Once determined to be eligible to apply applicants will be scheduled for a required Fitness Test. Incumbents are responsible for performing law enforcement for all County buildings, facilities and grounds. Incumbents are sworn officers and specific responsibilities include responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, patrolling assigned areas, conducting investigations, and preparing reports.

Internship At The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office Work Release and Restitution Center
The Mecklenburg County Work Release and Restitution Center provides outstanding work/training experience for interns. The work/training programs are designed to meet the trainees and the correctional program's needs. Internships are available in the Work Release and Restitution Center (WRRC), located on the corner of McDowell Street and Elizabeth Avenue in uptown Charlotte. The WRRC houses adult offenders nearing release. The program has a strong focus on treatment, addiction services, education, family and community involvement and counseling.
The intern work experience at the WRRC includes such activities as supervision of residents, adjustment board member, supervisor of recreational trips, urinalysis collection, treatment team member, resident verifications, crisis intervention and more. There are nonpaid internships and volunteer positions available.
Internship
Details
- Approximately 20 hours per week.
- Working hours may include days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
- A minimum of a three (3) month commitment.
- College credit hours available.
- Outstanding training experiences.
Training
Interns are assigned to a supervisor and receive weekly individualized training, as well as in service and on-the-job training.

- At least 21 years of age.
- Completion of at least three years of college, with one year in criminal justice, a behavioral science or human service.
- Interest in a career in the human services field or corrections.
- A valid driver's license.
- There will be a background check.

Information Gatherer - Warrant Repository (AP Analyst)

Incumbent maintains the security and accuracy of all outstanding documents (warrants) by controlling retention, authorized distribution, and expiring documents. Duties include data entry into CJIS and NCIC, telephone verification of documents. Incumbent must be currently DCI certified or capable of completing and passing the DCI certification class. Must possess good communication skills, sound use of discretion, skills in computer data entry, knowledge of criminal laws, arrest, investigation and criminal proceedings of North Carolina. Permanent night shift.
Duties:
Possess skills in the collection of information for all criminal justice agencies. Analyze arrest information with arresting officer to ascertain criminal elements are in place, maintain the security and accuracy of all outstanding documents by controlling retention, authorized distribution, expiring documents, produces local, state and national criminal history of every arrestee.
Communication skills, sound use of discretion, computer skills to include data entry and information retrieval, knowledge of criminal laws, arrest, investigation and criminal proceedings of North Carolina. Certification by the North Carolina Division of Criminal Information (SBI).
Must be able to work night shifts, 6:45 p.m. - 7:00 am... Shift rotation schedule equates to working 14 or 15 nights per month; work 2, off 2, work 3, off 2, work 2, off 3.

Administrative Support Asst. II - Classification & Records

The Administrative Support Asst. II in the Arrest Processing Lobby is responsible for assisting the shift deputies in answering the telephones and giving arrest information to the public in a professional and timely manner. All information provided from this area must be accurate because it relates to court dates and bond information provided directly to public inquiries by phone or in person. This person will also assist the Records/Release and Classification staff by filing court updates, checking release paperwork for signatures, and release from the system status. Release paperwork is then properly prepared and filed in the inactive files maintained by the Classification unit. In addition, the incumbent must be computer literate and possess superior organizational and communication skills. Other duties include, but are not limited to; assisting when necessary with the MCCJIS system and any other related clerical duty or responsibility as needed.
The hours for this position are 12:00 noon until 12:00 midnight permanent. This is an 86 hour biweekly schedule resulting in 9 hours overtime each pay period. Work 2/off 3/work 2/off 2/work 3/off 2 each pay period, 12 hours each.
Qualifications: High School Diploma, or G.E.D., and two years of clerical experience in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and departmental policies and procedures are required at this level.
