Sex Offender Information and Notification System

Effective November 19, 2007, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office's Sex Offender Information and Notification System will redirect you to the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry website.  The State site has all of the features you are accustomed to, as well as additional features which will allow you to perform enhanced inquiries.   If you registered to receive e-mail alert notification on the Sheriff's Office site, you must register again on the State site to receive e-mail notifications.  Visit http://www.ncfindoffender.com to update your bookmarks, signup for email alerts or search for registered sex offenders in your community.  As always we appreciate your support and will continue to find ways to better serve the citizens of Mecklenburg County.

Knowledge is power.  The more you know and understand about registered sex offenders in your neighborhood, the better equipped you are to educate your family about potential dangers.  Keep in mind, however, the registry or e-mail notification does not totally protect you.  As in all situations, you should always be on guard to the possibility that you may become a victim of crime.

In closing, it is important to remember:

  • Registered sex offenders have met, or are meeting – through probation, their legal obligations as ordered by the court.
  • Unless an individual has been convicted of a sexual offense, they will not be registered.
  • Not all sex offenders registered in Mecklenburg County have committed crimes against children.
  • The North Carolina Sex Offender Registry and the e-mail notification program are just additional tools for citizens to use to protect yourselves and your families.

If you have any questions regarding sex offender registration or sex offenders, please call my office at 704-336-8730.
