McAlpine Creek Greenway Extension
|
Project: McAlpine Creek Greenway, Extension from Sardis Road to Providence Road
Length: Approximately 1 mile
Location: Sardis Road to Providence Road
Description: The proposed greenway will extend existing McAlpine Creek Greenway one mile south from Sardis Road to Providence Road increasing the existing Campbell/McAlpine greenway system to a total of 5.1 miles, excluding the 5K (3.1 mile) cross country trail in McAlpine Creek Park. It will be the third longest greenway in the entire system and an important step toward connection to the Lower McAlpine Creek Greenway at Johnston Road.
|
What's Next:
Planning and design are substantially complete for an extension of McAlpine Creek Greenway to the south from Sardis Road to Providence Road. Design was being pursued in partnership with City and County Storm Water Services. Stream restoration construction will begin in winter 2010.

|
The construction of the greenway will be delayed until Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities completes installation of a large relief sewer across the property. Sewer construction is anticipated to begin between 2010 (earliest) and 2012, depending on funding resources. The first public meetings were held and the design of stream restoration and greenway was moved forward to accommodate permitting for stream restoration. The greenway design has been completed as much as possible until remaining property considerations can be resolved. Two update presentations were made to inform citizens about this project prior to stream restoration construction.
