The Revolution Sports and Learning Academy will be a facility with the capacity to teach learning and life skills to our youth through sports programs on a regional scale. Construction on the ten million dollar, 30,000 square foot, facility has started. The First T golf facility will open May 2009, followed by main facility, which is expected to open to the public in the spring of 2010. The Center will include youth targeted spaces to host programs offered by the Police Athletic League, the Charlotte Boxing Academy and The First Tee of Charlotte. The first phase will also include an artificial turf football field (completed early 2007), a youth specific fitness area, new golf clubhouse, multi-use classroom space, non-commercial kitchen grill with eating space, an open office area and large storage rooms. Additionally, extension of the Irwin Creek Greenway is planned from Clanton Road through Revolution Park to West Boulevard. Later facility phases may include: an indoor running track with ancillary track and field components, competition space for large boxing and wrestling events, multigenerational activity rooms, arts and crafts rooms, a performing arts space and a future Minority Golf Hall of Fame.

The project will also serve area youth sports learning needs through wrestling, boxing, golf, and other skill programs. The former Revolution Golf Course Clubhouse will also be relocated to this new facility. The location is the former Revolution Outdoor Swimming Pool site. |
