Southeast Corridor

Overview:

The proposed Southeast Corridor Rapid Transit Line (LYNX Silver Line) is one of Charlotte's four rapid transit corridors.  The Southeast Corridor extends approximately 13.5 miles from Charlotte's Center City to the border of Mecklenburg and Union Counties, terminating at Central Piedmont Community College's Levine Campus.  Sixteen stations have been identified, including twelve within Charlotte.  Bus Rapid Transit was selected as the mode of rapid transit for the Southeast Corridor; however, it was also decided to delay implementation for at least five years to allow reconsideration of light rail transit for this corridor.

Station area plans for six of the future transit stations are currently underway as part of the Independence Boulevard Area Plan.

Station Area Plans:

  • Uptown Area

  • Pecan Avenue (Land use planning for this station area is included in the Plaza Central Pedscape Plan)

  • Briar Creek, Amity Gardens, Sharon Amity, Conference, Village Lake and Sardis Road North (Included in the Independence Blvd. Area Plan)

  • Town of Matthews – 4 stations.  Station area planning for these stations will be the responsibility of the Town of Matthews.
