What are the exception rules, regarding the reduction of City Auto Fees for the elderly?
Effective November 1, 2008.
The exception for the elderly is applicable for residents who live within the corporate limits of the City of Charlotte who are 65 years of age or older in the month in which the automobile registration expires and whose disposable income does not exceed twenty five thousand dollars ($25,000). Disposable income includes all monies received from Social Security, retirement income, dividends, etc. for the prior year.
The "Application for Reduction of City Auto Fee for the Elderly" must be filed within 30 days from the tax bill due date. All information must be provided and application must be signed to qualify to receive a $15.00 refund of the $30.00 Charlotte Auto Fee. What real property exclusion is available for elderly or permanently disabled persons?
North Carolina allows Low-Income Homestead Exclusions for qualified individuals. Owners must apply with the County Tax Assessor's office between January 1 and June 1.
