Eagle Scout Delivers Old Cell Phones
|
On January 21, 2009, Eagle Scout Kevin Vance of Boy Scout Troop 13 delivered nearly 400 old cell phones to the Mecklenburg County Women's Commission.
The Women's Commission collects old cell phones in an effort to give domestic violence victims assistance in calling for help. The phones that cannot be used go to Shelter Alliance, which provides funds to shelters and social service providers in exchange for the old phones.
The Eagle Scout award is the highest rank a Boy Scout can receive. Some notable Eagle Scouts include Neil Armstrong and Gerald Ford. One of the requirements to earn the award is to perform a service project that helps the community and displays the leadership skills of the scout.
