Charlotte is physically located between two nuclear power facilities, the McGuire and the Catawba Nuclear faculties, operated by Duke Energy.  In fact it is the only city in the world to have two facilities at its doorstep. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management works closely with Duke Energy to monitor the facilities and to develop contingency plans if, in the unlikely event, an emergency arises.

Annually Emergency Management and Duke Energy practice emergency drills to keep all responders in both organizations familiar with the procedures.
