Tax Assessor’s Office Provides Online Tax Filing Option

The Assessor’s Office has partnered with Tax Management Associates to provide a new electronic-filing solution for businesses to file their property tax listing with the Tax Assessor’s Office. The system, called TAXScribe, is being provided at no cost to the County or taxpayers. Using TAXScribe is intended to increase operational efficiency and save taxpayers time and expense in the annual filing process.

The Tax Assessor’s Office is preparing to send out the 2012 listings that will contain instructions for filing returns and extension requests online using TAXScribe. Beginning in January, 2012, Mecklenburg County businesses will be able to use the e-filing application, which provides:

  • Free online e-filing for businesses, accountants, and tax preparers
  • Text fields that replicate the North Carolina State form to produce accurate listings for each business
  • Data storage for easy filing in future years. Taxpayers only need to add additions and deletions after their data is entered for the first time
  • Sharing capabilities for CPAs and tax preparers to send listings to clients for approval
  • Taxpayers can download forms to allow the tax preparer to sign on their behalf
  • Spreadsheet templates for uploading complex asset and leasing information details
  • Live customer application support via email, phone and chat
Board members with questions should contact Mecklenburg County Tax Assessor Garrett Alexander at 704-336-2976 or via email.
