North Carolina counties are required to operate under an annual Balanced budget ordinance covering a fiscal year beginning July 1 and ending June 30. According to the Local Government & Fiscal Control Act, a recommended budget must be submitted to the governing board no later than June 1 and adopted no later than July 1.
The Board unanimously adopted a $1.38 billion operating budget for Fiscal Year 2011-12 at its June 7 meeting. The tax rate is 81.66 cents on each $100 of assessed valuation of taxable property as listed January 1, 2011.
