Mecklenburg County is home to the second largest military population in the state, with Cumberland County, home to Fort Bragg, being the largest. Because of this, the county government, along with many agencies and organizations, has made a number of services available to this community.
Major Events
Educational Seminars May 14: The Veteran Services Office, located inside the Hal Marshall Center (700 North Tryon Street), will host a series of seminars focusing on military culture, effects of deployment and mental health issues. The seminars are from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Career Expo May 16: A comprehensive Armed Forces Career Expo will take place at the Navy-Marine Corps Reserve Center, 8115 North Hills Circle, Charlotte. The event is from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Classes offered include:
- Resume Writing and Interviewing
- How to Be Your Own Boss (including Sub-Contracting)
- Career counseling and individualized sessions
Vice Admiral Kevin M. McCoy will be in attendance and a guest speaker at this event.
Grand Finale May 19: The finale event on May 19 will be held at beautiful Marshall Park, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and include static displays from our military branches, entertainment, food, healthcare screenings, and many resources with information for both military and civilian populations.
This week is intended to show how the local military and veteran population impacts Mecklenburg County and the surrounding area. Additionally, CARTT seeks to improve and promote the awareness of all resources, county and regional, available to all military and veteran personnel.
