WINTER 2010 'GET GOING GUIDE' IS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

The winter issue of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation’s Get Going Guide is now available online. The popular publication, which has been printed twice a year for several years, was recently transformed into a quarterly online-only publication, helping to save about 60 trees in the process. The Get Going Guide is posted as a PDF and linked to download from other County sites. The new format allows for fresher content in each issue as well as quicker access to program and event registration since it will be linked directly to E-Parks. And, for extra convenience, the Get Going Guide will be easy to download and save to your computer desktop for reference or printing. Future issues include spring 2011 – (March, April, May), and summer 2011 – (June, July, August).

E-PLANT TIPS FOR DECEMBER FROM THE NC COOPERATIVE EXTENSION PROGRAM

  • Apply a second fertilizer application to your lawn if you have not done so already…ex. 10 lbs of a 10-10-10 fertilizer per 1000 sq. ft.
  • Remove dead, diseased, and wind-damaged branches on trees and shrubs.
  • Turn and prune house plants regularly to keep them shapely. Pinch back new growth to promote bushy plants.
  • Keep winter fertilization of most houseplants to a minimum as plant growth is now at its slowest.
