This photo contest is a preliminary to the 2009 Pedigree® Bark in the Park Dog Festival presented by Food Lion on Saturday, April 25, 10am-4pm at a NEW LOCATION this year. It will be at Metrolina Expo (at the old Fairgrounds), 7100 Statesville Road (off Exit 16, Sunset Road, off I-77). This festival is FREE to the public and has FREE onsite parking. The new location offers plenty of parking and plenty of room for festival activities. Last year this event drew about 13,000 people, most with dogs. All dogs are asked to bring their owners on the other end of a leash!
Brentson is owned by Kathy Onisick of Charlotte. The entry for Brentson said, “Don't be bewildered by my droopy eyes, I am happy all the time! I love to have my long, velvety ears stroked, and my sweet personality gets me tons of affection wherever I go. I love to play with stuffed animals and get very excited when someone asks me, "wanna go for a walk?" I am also the perfect companion while watching television, reading or napping.” Shakespeare described Basset Hounds in A Midsummer Night's Dream by noting, "Their heads are hung with ears that sweep away the morning dew"
Brentson’s photo was one of three selected as finalists by a panel of judges, based on cleverness and originality. In all, 59 photos were entered this year. Visitors to www.parkandrec.com voted for their favorite photo April 1-19. The Top Dog receives a photo portrait donated by Deborah Triplett Studios. Brentson and his master will act as grand marshals of the WAXN Pooch Parade at this year's Bark in the Park and receive a year's supply of dog food from Pedigree® and Food Lion and other prizes. Brentson’s picture will be on the logo for 2010 dog festival. Among other finalists, Roxie came in second with 24% of votes, and Marley came in third with 15% of the votes.
