Charlotte, NC-- Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department along with Lite 102.9 FM kicks off the holiday season Saturday, December 12, 2009 with the lighting of a large Christmas tree at the Alan Newcomb Parkshell (generally called the “bandshell”) at the bottom of the hill beside the lake.
This event is open to the public, and attendees are invited donate an ornament for the Christmas tree. The tree lighting will be at 6pm.
Before the tree lighting, there will be FREE and festive activities for the families and children. Activities begin at 3pm and include a hay ride around the lake, Santa’s arts and crafts, face painting, holiday music and performers, plus a chance to visit with Santa and RAY, the Park and Recreation mascot, from 4:30pm-5:30pm.
Guests are encouraged to bring a toy to donate to Toys for Tots or a coat for Cloth Charlotte’s coat drive
