Charlotte, NC-- Mecklenburg County park and Recreation Department invites Youngsters to play sports for fun and fitness this spring, in these and other programs:
Youth Baseball
Sign–up now for youth baseball leagues at Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department. Twenty recreation centers all over Charlotte-Mecklenburg are organizing teams in various age groups for youth, ages 4-14. Play starts April 18, 2009.
Registration runs through March 6. Cost is $55. Register online at

Be a Champion Track & Field League
It's time to register for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department's spring "Be a Champion Track and Field League" for youth, ages 4-18." Meets will be held every Tuesday during May at the Irwin Belk Complex, 500 Summit Avenue, on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University. More than a dozen recreation centers are organizing teams.
Registration runs through March 1 with a kick-off event March 31, 6-8pm, at the Belk Complex. Register at

QuickStart Tennis
Youngsters, ages 4-8, can learn tennis with the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation's "Quick Start Tennis" program. The sport is scaled down especially for kids! The progam is moffered at: Tom Sykes Recreation Center, 1501 Euclid Avenue; Naomi Drenan Recreation Center, 750 Beal Street; West Charlotte Recreation Center, 2400 Kendall Drive; Mallard Creek Recreation Center, 2530 Johnston-Oehler Road; Sugaw Creek Recreation Center, 943 West Sugar Creek Drive; and Tuckaseegee Recreation Center, 4820 Tuckaseegee Road
