Charlotte, NC-- Tom Sykes Recreation Center, run by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, offers two great trips for youngsters on 2009 Spring Break from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools:
- Trip to Crowder’s Mountain State Park—Monday, April 6, 2009: Participants will go on a two mile hike guided by a park ranger up beautiful Crowder’s Mountain, as they learn about the geology and history of the mountain. This is for 5th through 8th graders. Hiking boots are recommended. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a bagged lunch. After hike, there will be picnic and a visit to the nature enter. Vans depart at 9am from Tom Sykes Recreation Center, 1501 Euclid Ave. in Dilworth. Return will be at 3pm. Cost is $5. Pre-registration is required, and the deadline to register is . March 31. - Trip to UNC at Chapel Hill—Tuesday, April 7, 2009: Students interested in attending college can take a trip to the UNC-Chapel Hill campus for a guided tour of the academics, arts, athletics, student life and history. Also visit the Carolina Basketball Museum! Vans depart at 8am from Tom Sykes Recreation Center, 1501 Euclid Ave. in Dilworth. Return will be at 7pm. Cost is $20 (includes lunch at Rams Head Dining Hall). Pre registration is required, and the deadline to register is March 31.
