Seniors ages 55 and older are invited to attend the trip which will include visits to several landmarks of the Civil Rights Movement around the state. Cost is $46 a person.

Youth, ages 11-17, are invited to attend up to four college basketball games over winter break. Cost is $48 for two games and $60 for all four games.

Kids ages 1-12 are invited to "Swim with Santa" from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. There will be plenty of great photo opportunities as well as a chance for youngsters to talk with Santa.

The performance is Saturday, Dec. 18 at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.

Individuals grieving the loss of a loved one are invited to attend the service which begins at 2 p.m.

The Workshop is Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and costs $5 per person.

The event cost $5 and will also include games, crafts, Santa, and maybe even a special appearance by the Park and Recreation mascot, RAY.

The trip is Saturday, March 19. Cost is $62 to ski or $69 to snowboard.

The event is Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Chick-fil-A on East Woodlawn Road.

Festivities are Saturday, Dec. 4, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and include great environmentally-friendly gift ideas , puppets and children’s stories with the University Library, crafts, activities, naturalist-led hikes and, of course, Santa.

The film will be shown on Tuesday, November 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mahlon Adams Pavilion in Freedom Park.

Volunteer Services Coordinator Lori Saylor is a recipient of the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service for 2010. The honor recognizes volunteer efforts, accomplishments, and impact in the community.

The workshop is Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, 10 a.m. – noon. All ages are welcome. Admission is $5 a person.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2010 at the William R. Davie Conference Center.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from more than 25 local non-profit and government organizations to get information on the many ways to get involved in the Charlotte community.

The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of events and activities for Halloween and autumn. Events are offered for all members of the family and are sure to make for a scary good time.

The tournament will feature some of the best amateur male and female boxers from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee.

The clinic is open to boys and girls ages 7-13 and cost $15 per person.

The “Amazing Race” is a fun-filled urban adventure where teams solve puzzles, figure out clues, find locations and complete challenges while discovering uptown Charlotte.

Advisory Councils consist of individuals who serve as liaisons between the Park and Recreation Department and citizens of the county

Classes are from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and cost $20 per person for the entire four-week session.

Registration fee is $65, which includes league play and uniform. The deadline for individual players to register is Friday, October 22.

The fair is October 20, 2010, 11am-2pm, and will promote safety awareness, senior programs and activities, and healthy medical tips to senior citizens in the county.
