National Food Day Celebration to Highlight Importance of Sustainable Food

Mecklenburg County Cooperative Extension, a division of Park and Recreation, will partner with Sow Much Good Inc. to host the first annual National Food Day Celebration on Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Bette Rae Thomas Rec Center.
Charlotte, NC- Mecklenburg County Cooperative Extension, a division of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, will partner with Sow Much Good Inc. to host the first annual National Food Day Celebration on Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Bette Rae Thomas Rec Center. The event seeks to educate and raise awareness of the importance of sustainable food through a number of educational activities: 
  • A “Living Foods” laboratory, led by culinary students of Charlotte’s Johnson & Wales University
  • A local foods cinema featuring screenings of popular documentaries from the local foods movement 
  • Beginner gardening classes on how to grow food in small spaces
  • Youth activities
  • An educational vendor expo including a host of health and wellness agencies and businesses
  • An onsite farm stand which will offer fresh, local and organic produce
Ten participants will also receive the opportunity to win a local Thanksgiving feast from Sow Much Good Inc, in addition to a host of other great giveaways. Persons and businesses interested in volunteering or vending at the event should call 704-336-2082.
