Register Now for Youth Basketball

Park and Rec invites parents with children interested in playing basketball, ages 4-18, to register now through Nov. 4 for the upcoming winter co-ed recreation season.
Charlotte, NC- The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department invites parents with children interested in playing basketball, ages 4-18, to register now through Nov. 4 for the upcoming winter co-ed recreation season. Space is limited, so register early! A birth certificate is required for proof of age, determined as of Jan. 1, 2012.

Registration fee is $65, which includes league play and uniform. The league play runs December to February with practices beginning in November. Teams will be formed utilizing a blind draft system in hopes of balancing the competition for our Instructional and Rec-Vets Divisions.

To register, visit Eparks, click on "Program Registration," select "School Level” and “Athletics” to see league offerings. You may also call 311 or register in person at your nearest recreation center.

For organizations registering teams to play in the Rec-Vets Open League, the fee is $65 per player and uniforms are provided. Ages include 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U & 18U. Participants register individually and will be prompted for team affiliation.

For organizations registering teams to play in the Competitive-Open League, the fee is $400 per team (uniforms not included) or $600 with the Department providing uniforms. Open league teams have until Oct. 8 to register. Competitive-Open leagues must provide their own practice sites.

Youth Basketball Coaches Needed

If you enjoy basketball and like working with kids, then consider volunteering as a youth basketball coach. Time commitment consists of a one-hour weekly practice plus games which are on Saturdays and usually last an hour. All Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation coaches are trained and certified through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association and undergo a background check by the department. If interested in being a volunteer coach, please contact the recreation center closest to you or Lori Saylor, volunteer coordinator, at 704-353-0504.
