CLT Opens Inbound Lanes on Airport's New Entrance Road

Provides more Direct Access to Terminal Building

CLT has opened inbound lanes from Josh Birmingham Parkway to the Airport’s new entrance road. This is a major milestone for Charlotte Douglas. The new entrance road provides a more direct route to the terminal and Long Term parking lots 1, 2 and 3. Drivers headed to Charlotte Douglas from Josh Birmingham Parkway, Harlee Avenue and Little Rock Road are now directed onto the new roadway, which merges onto Little Rock Road and directly to the terminal. The area remains a construction zone. Drivers are encouraged to be alert, slow down, obey the speed limit and drive more cautiously while adjusting to the new route. Variable message signs have been strategically placed along roadways to help drivers navigate the change. Airport crews have been monitoring traffic and adjusting traffic flow patterns throughout the day.

Passengers are asked to plan accordingly and allow extra time when visiting the Airport.

Construction of the new $21.5 million airport entrance road began in August 2012. The entire project, which also includes new exit lanes, is scheduled for completion this fall. When finished, the road will improve connections to and from the terminal.

The next phase of the project includes completing the exit lanes and roundabout at the intersection of Old Dowd Road and Rental Car Road by the end of November.
