Security Checkpoint C will reopen at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 17. It was closed Monday, May 14 for a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) equipment upgrade and area renovation project.
Crews installed an Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) unit with automated target recognition. The machine displays a generic human image on TSA monitors and highlights areas that may require additional screening. A second AIT machine will be operational Friday morning at Checkpoint C. Six AIT units are already being used at CLT’s other three checkpoints.
In addition to new security equipment, Checkpoint C also received new ceiling panels, lighting, carpet and paint for the surrounding walls.
Thursday morning TSA plans to resume its regular schedule.
- Checkpoints A and D will open at 4:15 a.m.
- Checkpoints B and C will open at 5:15 a.m.
Passengers may access any airline gate through any checkpoint.
Currently, there are four security checkpoints with a total of 15 security lanes operating at Charlotte Douglas. In June, the eastside terminal expansion will add a fifth security checkpoint with five lanes. Last year, nearly seven million passengers were screened through CLT security checkpoints.
