Charlotte Douglas International Airport will host its seventh annual Runway 5K Run at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 26 at CLT.
Runners and walkers may register online now until Friday, October 25 at sportoften.com or register in person during the week of the race, October 23 – 25, at the Charlotte Running Company (1412 East Boulevard). The cost is $30 until Friday, October 25 and $35 on the day of the race.
Participants will be treated to a smooth, flat course and breathtaking views of the Airport's runways. This year’s special guest is Charlotte Bobcat’s point guard Kemba Walker.
A variety of activities will be on hand for children, including a bounce house, animated movie characters and face painting, as well as pieces of aircraft including a C-130 and DC-7.
Funds from the Run will go toward LIFESPAN’s Community Activity and Employment Transition Program (CAET). LIFESPAN, a nonprofit organization, assists children and adults with developmental disabilities by providing education, employment and enrichment opportunities.
More than a dozen LIFESPAN participants currently work at CLT, mainly as restroom attendants. Last year, nearly $30,000 was raised for LIFESPAN. The Airport has donated race proceeds to LIFESPAN since 2008. CLT’s 2012 Runway 5K Run marked a milestone, raising more than $120,000 throughout the past five years for the local nonprofit.
