Today, Charlotte Douglas International Airport permanently closed the West Hourly parking deck. This is preparation for upcoming demolition. Customers will be able to continue parking in the East Hourly deck until it closes in the spring. Electronic signage is currently in place to remind customers of the closing. Customers can also choose from CLT’s other parking options, including Business Valet, Long Term, Daily and Curbside Valet.
The West and East Hourly decks are being removed to make room for CLT’s new Hourly deck. Construction of the new Hourly deck began in November 2011 and will wrap up in November 2014. The $120 million structure will contain seven levels and 7,000 parking spaces. The top four floors will house 4,000 public parking spaces. The lower three levels will include a rental car return facility with 3,000 rental car spaces, check-in counters and a service area to wash and refuel the vehicles.
Currently, the timeline for the West Hourly deck’s demolition is as follows:
- Wednesday, January 2: The entrance to the West Hourly deck will close. Customers will be directed to the entrances of the East Hourly deck or may choose among CLT’s other parking options.
- Monday, January 14: Demolition will begin and is scheduled to take approximately one month to complete.
