Checkpoint C Closure: Allow Adequate Time to Clear Security Checkpoints this Week
With the temporary closure of Checkpoint C this week, passengers are asked to allow adequate time to clear security. Wait times can be up to an hour during peak times.
Travelers may use Checkpoints A, B, or D, which will all open at 4 a.m. through Thursday, May 17, to access their gates. TSA has reassigned staff to the open checkpoints to assist and minimize wait times for passengers.
Checkpoint C closed Monday, May 14, at noon for a TSA equipment upgrade and area renovation project. It reopens 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 17.
Be sure to click here and use the Transportation Security Administratin’s (TSA) application and website for real-time wait times at checkpoints. Follow CLT’s Twitter feed for security wait time updates as well.

Since opening in 1936, Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) has grown from a small, municipal airport to a dominant player in the aviation industry and the field of flight. The Airport contributes nearly $10 billion each year to Charlotte’s local economy and more than 100,000 jobs in the region are directly or indirectly related to the Airport and its services. In 2011, CLT set a new record when it welcomed more than 39 million passengers and became the world’s sixth busiest airport (in arrivals and departures).
In the ever-changing aviation industry, CLT continues to adapt and grow.
“I think you either grow and stay viable or you risk withering and dying on the vine. And we choose to grow and are fortunate enough to have the demand for additional capacity to enable us to grow,” said Aviation Director Jerry Orr in a recent interview.
The Airport outgrew its first terminal in less than three decades and on May 2, 1982, it opened a new, state-of-the-art, 325,000-square foot terminal building containing two concourses. In the past 30 years, the terminal building has grown to more than 1.8 million square feet.
Today, CLT’s terminal contains five concourses, more than 90 retail vendor and concession options and provides millions of passengers their first impressions of the Queen City.
“When I'm down in the terminal, I hear people all the time say, ‘I had no idea Charlotte was this big.’ They’re judging Charlotte by their experience in the Airport,” said Orr. “So I think it's important that we put on a good face, that's what we do in the South. We want people to think kindly of us.”
Although, CLT is amidst extensive renovations that will change the face of the terminal building and improve passenger services, throughout the coming year, there will be various events to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the current terminal building and the Airport’s contributions to the community.
