The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department would like to encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly this New Year’s Eve and remind the community of the dangers of driving while intoxicated (DWI).
The CMPD will be increasing DWI enforcement city-wide through New Year’s Eve. Motorists should expect to see DWI checkpoints during this time period along with additional officers in cars, on motorcycles, bicycles and foot who will be alert for impaired drivers.
Additionally, there will be a full complement of staff with the department’s DWI Task Force working to identify intoxicated drivers. Recently, the DWI Task Force along with CMPD patrol officers charged 19 people with DWI over a three day period following Christmas.
