Officer Piotr Ignaczak with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Metro Division has received the CMPD’s Life Saving Award for the outstanding work he displayed during a recent shooting incident.

On December 14, 2013 Central Division officers responded to 1000 block of West Trade Street in reference to one subject shot in the leg. When Officer Ignaczak arrived on scene he observed the victim bleeding profusely from his leg and determined his injuries to be life threatening because he was struck in the femoral artery.

Officer Ignaczak applied a tourniquet on the victim's leg until Medic arrived and transported the victim to CMC Main. Doctors indicated that without the tourniquet, the victim would have died prior to his arrival at CMC.
