Robbery Unit detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have arrested Jerell Parish Banks, DOB: 08/20/1993, for his involvement in an armed robbery case that occurred in the Providence Division.
On March 21, 2014, Providence Division patrol officers responded to Kids Co. Variety located at 3010 Monroe Road in reference to an armed robbery from business at gunpoint call for service. A store clerk stated that the suspect entered the store, pulled a gun from his waistband and demanded money from the register.
An alert neighbor observed the suspect get into a car and leave the area and a description of the car was broadcast to officers in the field. An off-duty officer observed the unoccupied vehicle idling behind the business prior to the robbery incident and made a point to obtain a tag number of the car.
The CMPD’s Real Time Crime Center captured video footage of the car in the area of the robbery and the vehicle matched the description provided by the witness and the off- duty police officer. Information and evidence gathered during the investigation identified Jerell Parish Banks as the suspect involved in the incident. Banks has been charged with Robbery with a dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
Solid communication from a community member, field officers, detectives and members of the Real Time Crime Center played a critical role in apprehending this suspect before he had an opportunity to prey on any additional members of our community.
